Who paid for more?

Let's face it, weddings aren't cheap. Someone somewhere along the line has to pay for everything. How did you and your significant other split up the costs?

We both paid equally! My family paid for half the wedding and so did his family. We figured that it was only fair to do it that way.

I'm newly engaged so we didn't have time to talk about it yet. However, I'm assuming we would pay for what we can afford ourselves and our families will help with what they can.

I guess usually the guy and his family will pay more because it's his responsibility and the girl is marrying into his family.

I know for a long time it seemed to be the tradition that the Bride's parents would pay more. This was modeled after the historical "dowry" concept-the opposite of the "bride price" that the men would pay. However, nowadays the cost usually is divided.

When my friends got married, they were both still studying and didn't really have a lot of money. So their parents paid for the entire thing.

My fiance and I will cover most of the cost but our parents will be helping some as well. We both want to take it on our own shoulders but it can get extremely expensive.
